Why Steam?
Sinus congestion can result from a cold or flu virus as well as from allergies. When not properly drained, mucus builds up and infection can set in resulting in sinusitis. Sinus headaches may also occur from blocked sinus passages leading to pressure build-up and infection. Steam inhaled through the nose moisturizes and soothes the inflamed, swollen passages that trigger sinus congestion and pain. A natural expectorant, warm vapor helps to dislodge the mucus trapped within the stuffed up nasal cavities. By expelling the blockage, pressure is relieved as is the facial pain and headaches associated with sinusitis.

"In addition to medications, some people with sinusitis find relief by breathing hot, moist air, using hot packs or washing the nasal cavities with a saline rinse." 13
- AAAI
"Chronic sinusitis. Warm moist air may alleviate sinus congestion. Using a vaporizer or inhaling steam from a pan of boiling water (removed from heat) may also help." 14
- Cleveland Clinic
"Inhale steam. Linger in a hot shower. Boil a kettle, pour the water into a pan, and bend over the pan with a towel over your head to inhale the steam. Even hot tea or chicken soup will help. One way or another, inhale steam three to four times a day." 15
- Harvard Medical School
"Moisturize your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapor from a bowl of medium-hot water. Keep the vapor directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air. This will help ease pain and help mucus drain." 16
- Mayo Clinic
"Breathe warm, moist air from a steamy shower, a hot bath, or a sink filled with hot water. Avoid extremely cool, dry air. Consider using a humidifier to increase the moisture in the air in your home." 17
